There’s plenty to do in Dawson Creek. The city is a haven for year-round recreation for all ages and skill levels.
Outdoor Recreation
Dawson Creek offers two golf courses, outdoor tennis and basketball courts, baseball diamonds and soccer fields. There is an indoor riding arena and horseback riding and mountain biking trails just outside the City. During the colder months, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hockey and curling are popular pursuits. Three arenas are natural in the winter. There’s also a full-size outdoor speed skating oval.
Parkland and Wilderness Areas
Dawson Creek boasts more parkland per capita than most communities. This includes a forest, over 25 km of groomed hiking and skiing trails and a man-made lake and park for swimming and picnicking. Surrounded by pristine lakes and rivers, the region is a paradise for fishing and birding.
Indoor Recreation
The newly completed South Peace Community Multiplex incorporates an aquatic centre with a 150-foot water slide, the EnCana Arts centre offering sporting and entertainment events, and the Lakota Agri-Centre for equestrian and rodeo activities.
The Bagne Memorial Pool, in the Child Development Centre, is a therapeutic pool and offers lessons and recreational swimming. Dawson Creek is also home to two indoor ice arenas and an indoor curling rink. Future expansion plans include another large capacity arena to house a Junior A hockey team.
