For the second year in a row, Dawson Creek has been recognized as one of British Columbia's most innovative green cities by the Union of BC Municipalities. In 2008, Dawson Creek was awarded a Green City Award. This is not by accident – it is embedded in the city's vision statement:
Dawson Creek will be a visionary community that works together for innovative
social, cultural, economic and environmental vitality.
The city has been engaged in Sustainability Planning since January 2007. The
primary goal of this process is to ensure that all policies, plans and actions follow
Dawson Creek's principles of sustainability.
This planning process involves Council, staff, citizens, organizations and businesses
to provide diverse perspectives and support for the long-term vision of a sustainable
community.
The City actively works with its citizens
Dawson City realizes that it's critical to have environmental laws and regulations,
but it's equally important to encourage its citizens to follow good practices on a
day-to-day basis. To that end, it actively supports and promotes these practices
in its communications and programs.
Bear Mountain Wind Park Opening Soon
Located in the Peace River region 15 kilometres southwest of Dawson Creek, the Bear Mountain Wind Park is on track to become British Columbia's first fully-operational wind farm by Fall 2009.
