B.C. leads the way in oil and gas exploration
The region has emerged as having one of the largest new gas reserves in the world. This has attracted billions of dollars of investment in oil and gas exploration and development. Shell Canada has recently invested over $6.5 billion in the region while Encana and Talisman Energy also have large holdings.
Last year, the province's oil and gas land lease sales more than doubled any previous year in B.C. This is more than triple Alberta’s previous year, and double that of Saskatchewan’s.
Also, expansion of a nearby multi-billion dollar hydro dam project is underway. If approved, it would employ hundreds of workers for over ten years.
